Buying guide: Belts & Pulleys

This range covers Kia, Mazda, Nissan and Volvo applications, matched by OEM part number.

A serpentine belt is a single point of failure for several systems at once: when it lets go, the alternator stops charging and the water pump stops turning within seconds. Tensioners and idlers matter just as much, because a worn bearing in an idler will chew the edge of a new belt and glaze its ribs.

Listen for a chirp on cold start, a squeal that follows engine speed, or a rumble from the accessory drive. Look for glazing on the belt ribs, frayed edges, missing chunks, or a belt that has walked off the pulley. Spin every idler by hand with the belt off; any roughness or play means it should be replaced at the same time.

Listings give the years, engine and drivetrain plus the OEM number, and state the number of ribs where that varies. Compare the rib count and length with the belt you are removing before ordering.
