Plastic clips are designed to release at a known load so a trim panel comes away without breaking, and to hold again afterwards. A generic clip of similar size may hold, but it will often grip too tightly and crack the panel it is meant to protect, or too loosely and let the trim rattle. Metal pins and spacers set clearances that a substitute cannot reproduce.
Replace clips whenever a panel has been removed, since the retaining barbs deform on the first release. Look for spacers that have crushed, pins that have sheared, and shims that have been left out during a previous repair and now show up as a misaligned panel gap.
Each listing states the application, the years and the OEM number so you can match the clip by code instead of by eye.
