Buying guide: Braces & Reinforcements

This range covers Kia, Mazda, Nissan and Volvo applications, catalogued by OEM part number.

These parts are structural. A crossmember locates the lower control arms or the transmission mount; a reinforcement panel spreads an impact load across the body rather than letting it concentrate at one bolt. That is why they are pressed from heavier gauge steel than a cosmetic panel and why the hole positions have to be exact.

Replace a brace or crossmember if it is bent, if the bolt holes have been pulled oval, or if corrosion has thinned the section. Do not try to straighten a deformed crossmember: the alignment references for the suspension are set from it, and a part that has yielded once will not hold its shape again.

Listings specify the model years, engine and drivetrain plus the OEM number. On structural parts, confirm whether your vehicle is two-wheel or all-wheel drive, because the crossmembers differ, and check the part number stamped on the original before ordering.
